The benefits of belonging to a cooperative telephone company versus a for-profit telephone company aren’t found in the type of services offered, but rather in the quality of services, prices, support, and the motivation behind offering those services. As a result, the type and quality of Molalla Communications Company services are tailored to meet and exceed the expectations of our unique community and Membership. Since we are a non-profit cooperative, our mission of Enriching Our Members’ Lives becomes top priority and forms the basis for how most decisions are made within our company.

From feedback the Membership has provided, we offer added benefits like free, local, in-house technical support; discounted in-home PC repair that our Members find convenient and affordable; and same day or next day phone repair/troubleshooting. We also offer free internet and computer classes as well as local Member support from our helpful and knowledgeable Member Relations Team.

Another significant benefit to having a cooperative culture in Molalla/Mulino is MCC’s involvement in, and our overall commitment to, improving our community. Throughout the year, Molalla Communications proudly supports many worthwhile community programs such as the Molalla Buckeroo, Community Theater, and Children’s Safety Town. We sponsor local organizations like FFA, Molalla High School Boosters, the Police Activities League, and donate thousands of dollars to graduating seniors to help with college. We also put on our own events like Member Appreciation Day, Thanksgiving Feast, Co-op Day, and Santa Day. One of the ways we fund many of these programs is through our Education and Economic Development Fund (EED), made up of forfeited patronage credits. The list below is a sample of the many ways we support our Membership. Please read on about this system and how it benefits our community.

Some important questions our Membership has asked us!

How is Molalla Communications able to provide so much financial support to our community and its Members?

The difference between the cost of doing business and the actual revenues collected each year, through Members and other sources, are calculated and the remaining dollars are then transferred to Patron’s Equity Credits. These credits are returned to the Members of the Cooperative in the form of a patronage check. Letters are sent out to Members informing them that patron checks will be available for pick-up on Co-op Day. Following Co-op Day, any remaining checks are mailed to our Members based on their current or last known address. If unable to reach these members, we publish the names in the newspaper as a notice to claim their checks. After notice and a waiting period of six months, the unclaimed checks are forfeited to MCC. MCC then has the option to forfeit the funds to the state of Oregon or to put it back into our community. MCC uses these forfeited funds to finance our Education and Economic Development Fund (EED), which you see being used to support activities in our community.

How can MCC be so cutting edge with technology and yet remain reasonable in price?

Since margins are returned to Membership, we have no incentive to drive up prices and reduce quality. Unlike a for-profit company, we exist to serve our Members. By applying ourselves to providing the best in new technology for our members, we are furthering the mission of Molalla Communications Company: Enriching Our Members’ Lives.
