What are the installation charges?
The service order charge is $4.95 with a one-year service contract ("Service Order Charge") and $65.00 without a service contract. This charge helps to cover the administrative costs associated with providing service to our customers.
Any worked needed at the customer's home or business would be performed at MCC's current T&M rate of $60.00 an hour plus any material. This work may include things like installation of a new phone line, phone jack or connecting the modem to a PC.
Is the Broadband modem included?
No. MCC will sell the appropriate modem to our customers at cost to ensure compatibility. Currently the price is $199.95 for the ABroadband modem and $499.95 for the SBroadband modem.
Are the Broadband modems internal or external devices?
We have selected external devices to simplify installation.
Do the modems work in a bridged or routed mode?
The modems are routers, not bridges.
Are the speeds listed upload or download speeds?
The listed speeds are the "downstream" speed, i.e., the flow from the Internet to your computer. The "upstream" speed varies between 1/2 to 1/5 of the downstream rate. For instance, the ABroadband package will work out to be something like 768K/384k(downstream/upstream). The SBroadband service is 768K/768K. We are also preparing to be able to offer higher SBroadband bandwidths up to 2.3Mb for those commercial customers who want those higher rates.
Is a "splitter" included in the installation?
A separate splitter is not necessary with our solution.
Since Broadband only works within a few miles of a switching station, where are your switching stations located?
We will eventually be able to supply Broadband service to all of our customers no matter how far they are from our Central Office (CO). Our solution extends the "3 cable mile limit" traditionally associated with Broadband service to all of our fiber-terminated remote switches. It is our intention to eventually provide Broadband service for all of our customers as we are able to upgrade all of our remotes to be fibre-terminated.
How do I determine if which Broadband package is best for my and my type of usage?
The packages vary in speed and price. Generally the smaller packages are fine for the single user who does e-mail and Web browsing with one (1) computer. The larger package (768k/768k) is better suited for small businesses that download and/or upload a lot of data and may want to connect their LAN to the circuit for multiple users.
Will you allow me to have my own IP address so I can host my own domain, web server and email? I already have a domain registered.
We will have arrangements for both dynamic and static IP addresses so that you can host your own domain, email and personal web servers, as desired.
Can I get Broadband through MCC but use a different Internet Service Provider?
Please note that initially we will only be able to provide these services for our customers@molalla.net. Eventually, we will be able to route traffic to other ISPs, but are not able to do so at this time.
