Ch. Blue Bolt Gold Rush Page/Ch Tenacity's Ruffnek

Litter of 2, DOB, 4-16-1991
Page, a very special girl.

CH 'Rangler Doc John McLoughlin was a beautiful boy with an awesome body and struture. He was about 18 inches and 55 lbs. He sired a litter with Ch Abba's Image O' Rangler from which there is a lovely boy in Idaho that sired a litter on December 21, 2002 owned by Joan Fisher of Ruffnek.

"Maggie", CH 'Rangler's Marguerite, came back to us at 10 years old after spending 6 years raising and sleeping in bed with kids of her own. She was so unhappy to lose her home, but has made the adjustment and is a happy and very outgoing old girl that looks 5 years younger than when she came back. All our dogs are on the BARF diet and the change it made for Maggie is enough to make us believers!

After several years of showing American Pit Bull Terriers and finding homes for more rescues than I could count, I wanted an American Staffordshire Terrier. It was rare to see one at a show in the Pacific NW in the mid and late 1980s. There were a couple of retired breeders in the area, Margaret and Jay Copeland in Oregon, and Ruth and Jack Alexander in Washington. My first AKC dog was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, CH Mutual Fund's Red Lion, "Linus", from John and Marlene Fund. Than, as luck would have it, I found a litter of puppies and when they were old enough, Chief was sent to me. CH Knowlwood's Chief of Staff, RB205693, DOB 5-5-1988. Chief and I dressed as Lady Liberty and the All American Dog for the 1988 Portland Bench Show's Lady and Her Dog Parade. We were a hit with the biggest round of applause!

"Chief"

While Chief was still a puppy and I was still showing Linus, I was at a show in Eugene Oregon where I meet BA and Joan Fisher. When they came out of the ring, I asked to pet BA and Joan said, "You like this breed?", in a rather surprised tone. "Indeed, I do", I told her. Joan has been one of my dearest friends for many years now. When I finally got the courage up to have my first litter, we breed BA and Page. With only two puppies, I kept and showed them both. It was nice to not have a litter of puppies to try to place while still being so new in the breed. And, as you can see, after getting Page in 1988 and not breeding her until 1991, I didn't get in a big hurry either. By the time those puppies were born, I had 3 foundation AmStaffs. Besides Page, I had CH Danny's Rowdytown Jazzy Girl and CH Pacific Rangler Wild Bill.
In 1989 while talking to Joan on the phone one day, she'd mentioned Ann Del Rio as a breeder on dogs behind her dogs. I said that name was familiar and looked at Page's championship certificate that was sent with her when I bought her from Roger Davenport. Ann and David Del Rio where the owners of Page when she earned her championship. Joan suggested I call Ann and tell her "about Page's happy new home." Joan gave me Ann's phone number and I gave her a call.
So, naive as I was, I called and asked for Ann, she'd answered the phone, I introduced myself and said, "A mutual friend suggested I call and tell you about my new baby and her happy new home." If you know Ann, you can hear her say, "Yes..." like I was some kind of loon. And, I said, "Her name is CH Blue Bolt Gold Rush Page." On the other end of the phone Ann whispers, "CH Gold Rush Blue Bolt Page." "PAGE", she screams, "What are you doing with Page!?" I thought to myself, "And I'm going to tell this woman I have pit bulls?" So, after the initial shock, for both of us, we talked for over a half an hour. I told her all about how I came to have Page and how much I loved her. Since that day, Ann and I have become great friends as well! And, our history together continued.
Page left us on New Year's Eve, 1996, when she was just a young 12 1/2 years old. As the queen of the Rangler household, it certainly has never been the same without her. She's one of those very special kind of dogs that brings so much joy, and pains you as much today to think about her being gone as the day she left. But, the lesson I learned when I lost my first pitbull, as my dad put it, "Don't try to replace Max. You never will." What I learned in my attempt to do so, is that you can't replace that much loved dog, but you can distract yourself from the pain with another great dog! We have and have had several great dogs over the years. Page will always have a very special place in our hearts.
